The third annual Great Places in Canada contest kicks off this month to highlight what makes the country unique.

今、カナダに住んでいる人達にそれを伝えましょう。

この国がなぜユニークなのかを取り上げるコンテスト、第3回「Great Places in Canada」が今月から始まります。

和訳のポイント

1: sculptures(スカルプチャーズ)

sculptures 「彫像」です。比較的大きい物を sculpture と呼ぶ事が多く、比較的小さい物は small・mini 等を前に付ける事が多いです。

– look, those mini sculptures are so cute!
-「見てみて!あれ可愛い~~!」
– the ice sculptures took 3 days to create
-「あれらの氷の彫像は彫るのに3日間かかりました」

2: spot(スポット)

spot 「場所」です。他の使い方をフレーズで紹介します。

– (drinks beer) ah, that hits the spot
– (ビールを飲んで)「ああ、ビールはうまい」
– I heard she’s got a weak spot for blond guys
– 「彼女、ブロンドの男に弱いらしいよ」

3: it’s time(イッツ タイム)

it’s time 「なにかをする時間」と訳せます。it’s show time! は皆さん聞いた事があると思います。

– isn’t it time you started on that?
-「それ、そろそろ始めないといけないんじゃない?」
– it’s time to sit back and relax
-「さてと、やる事終わったからリラックスするか」

おまけ

笑っているブロンズ像、正式名「A-maze-ing Laughter」は全部で14体あり、市民に親しまれてきました。「なぜか見ているとこっちも笑顔になる」がコンセプトだそうです。

– 人はここに笑いに来る
– 人はここに写真を撮りに来る
– 人はここに像のまねをしに来る
