消費税とは商品を購入したり、サービスを受けたりする際にかかる税金で、消費する人が平等に負担する税金です。
日本では2019年10月の消費税率 10%への引き上げが記憶に新しいところです。
BC州では、2010年に導入された HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) が廃止され、2013年4月から以前の消費税制度、 GST (Goods and Sales Tax) と 州の消費税 PST (Provincial Sales Tax) が復活した経緯があります。
現在の制度はHSTが導入される前（2010年7月以前）の制度とほぼ同じなのですが・・・でも
「で、何がGSTだけ？PSTもかかるものは何？」
「これには税金かかるの？かからないの？」
日本とは違い、少々分かりにくいカナダの消費税制度に戸惑う方（私も含めて）も多いのでは？

【基本ルール】
GST（連邦税）- Goods and Services Tax 5%
PST（州税）- Provincial Sales Tax 7%
１．GST 5%は、カナダ政府・国の消費税なので、ほぼ全てにかかります。
（もともと税金がかからないものを除く）
２．PST 7%は、BC州の消費税で以下のルールに従います。
– 基本的にBC州内で購入する商品、利用するサービスにかかります。
– BC州外から発送され、州内で使用される物品にもかかります。
