B.C. recycling program on track to start next spring

Despite protests by some municipalities that the costs are not clearly defined, British Columbia appears to be taking the final steps in launching the first program of its kind in North America for recycling packaging and printed paper.

和訳ポイント

1: on track（オン・トラック）
on track は「予定通り」と訳せます。on track -> 路線に乗っている -> 予定通り進んでいるという意味です。他の使い方も紹介します。

– you’re on the right track
-「方向性は合っていると思うよ」
– I guess we’re on track?
-「一応計画通りだよね？」

2: despite（ディスパイト）
despite は「にも関わらず」と訳せます。レベルが高そうな単語ですが、フレーズで覚えて使ってみてください。

– Despite our differences, we can work it out
-「お互いの考え方の違いはおいて、一緒にやりましょう」
– we had fun, despite the rain!
-「雨降ったけど楽しかったよ！」

3: defined（デファインド）
defined は「定義」「説明されている」と訳せます。この場合、clearly defined -> 明確に説明されているというふうに使われています。

– (relationship) can you define what you consider ‘bad’?
-（恋人関係）「君が言うだめってなに？」
– it’s clearly defined here
-「ここにちゃんと書いてあるじゃん」

4: taking the final steps（テイキング・ザ・ファイナル・ステップ）
taking the final steps は「（計画の）最終段階に入る」と訳せます。step を使ったフレーズを紹介します。

– we need to go step by step
-「もう少しゆっくりと一歩一歩やろう」
– who’s going to step up and take the initiative?
-「誰が恥ずかしがらず「やります！」と言ってくれるのかな」

5: first of its kind（ファースト・オブ・イッツ・カインド）
first of its kind は「その種類・形式で初」と訳せます。フレーズを紹介します。

– it’s pineapple beer; the first of its kind
-「ビール業界初！パイナップルビールだよ」
– come on, try it. It’s the first of its kind 🙂
-「何だか気にせず、取り敢えず食べてみなよ」

おまけ
この新しいプログラムは新聞や紙パッケージのリサイクル量を現在の５０％から７５％まで増やすのが目的です。現在自治体ごとに運営しているリサイクル業務を新しく設置された「Multi-Materials BC」（通称 MMCB）へ委託されます。

家庭でリサイクリングできる物も増えるです！MMBCによると、プラントポット、アルミ容器、ワックスや紙で舗装されている紙容器もリサイクルの対象になるそうです。
