Vancouver No. 14 in survey of cities with the best reputation, down from No. 1 last year

Vancouver has slid 14 spots this year from the top of a survey measuring the world’s most “reputable” cities.

Last year, Vancouver had the best reputation in the world, according to the Reputation Institute, based in Madrid, Spain.

Meanwhile, our city’s arch nemesis — Toronto — has rocketed up to the second spot in this year’s survey.

調査によると、バンクーバーの「評判ランキング」は去年の首位から１４位に転落。

スペインのマドリードにある Reputation Institute によると、バンクーバーは去年はトップでもっとも「評判」がよかったそうです。
我らの宿敵トロントは大幅に順位を上げ、２位にランクインしました。

和訳ポイント
1: survey（サーベー）
survey は「調査」と訳せます。この場合は名詞として使われていますね。動詞も全く同じなので気を付けましょう。

-「じゃあ、さっとアンケートでも取るか」
– 90 per cent of those surveyed were satisfied
-「調査した結果、９割の人が満足しているとの事です」

2: reputation（レピュテーション）
reputation は「評判」と訳せます。

-「彼はいい人だよ」

3: slid（スリッド）
slid は「ランクを落とす」とこの場合訳せます。slide の過去形ですね。他に過去形が変わっている単語を紹介します。

4: arch nemesis（アーチネメシス）
arch nemesis は「悪・宿敵」と訳せます。ライバルと違って、自分が善、相手が悪となります。トロントはバンクーバーの永遠の「敵」なんですね。

5: rocketed up（ロケッテッドアップ）
rocketed up は「急上昇した」と訳せます。ロケットの打つ上げのように急上昇する事から来ています。
